Tattoo AfterCare

Immediate Aftercare (First Few Days):

  • Remove the bandage: Typically within 1-2 hours after getting the tattoo, remove the bandage.

  • Clean the tattoo: Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Gently clean the tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, unscented antibacterial soap (like Dial or Dove) 2-3 times a day, or as advised by your artist.

  • Pat dry: Use a clean paper towel to gently pat the tattoo dry. Avoid rubbing.

  • Moisturize: Apply a thin layer of a fragrance-free, tattoo-specific ointment or lotion, such as Aquaphor or Cetaphil. Avoid over-moisturizing; a thin layer is sufficient.

Ongoing Aftercare (Next Few Weeks):

  • Continue cleaning and moisturizing:

  • Follow the same cleaning and moisturizing routine as above, adjusting as needed based on your tattoo's healing process.

  • Avoid picking or scratching: Let scabs and peeling skin fall off naturally. Picking can cause scarring and affect the tattoo's appearance.

  • Protect from the sun: Avoid direct sunlight on the tattoo for at least the first two weeks. After that, always use a high SPF sunscreen when exposed to the sun.

  • Avoid soaking:Refrain from swimming, hot tubs, and long baths until the tattoo is fully healed (usually around 2 weeks).

  • Wear loose clothing:Choose loose, comfortable clothing, especially if the tattoo is in an area prone to rubbing.

  • Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of water can help with overall skin health and elasticity.

Things to Avoid:

  • Scratching or picking: Let scabs and peeling skin fall off naturally.

  • Soaking the tattoo: Avoid swimming, hot tubs, and baths until healed.

  • Direct sunlight: Protect the tattoo from the sun, especially in the initial healing period.

  • Tight clothing: Wear loose, breathable clothing to avoid irritation.

  • Scented products: Stick to fragrance-free soaps, lotions, and ointments to minimize irritation.

Signs of Infection:

  • Excessive redness, swelling, or pain

  • Pus or discharge

  • Fever or chills

If you experience any signs of infection, consult your doctor or tattoo artist immediately.
